FAQ About the Course

What if I can’t attend all of the scheduled sessions of the course?

I strongly encourage you to plan to attend all of the scheduled sessions of the course.  This will provide the greatest benefit to you.  It will also ensure continuity for all participants, since parts of the course involve small group interaction and discussion.

Of course, if something comes up and you can’t make it, please don’t drop out.  I may record the sessions and may be able to make them available to you, but the recordings won’t include the small group discussions.

Is Mindful❋Emotion psychotherapy?

Mindful❋Emotion is a psychoeducational course, which means it provides information and skills that can be helpful to you in trying to solve the problems you have in your own life.  It is very compatible with individual or group psychotherapy.  If you participate in any form of psychotherapy, please discuss your interest in Mindful❋Emotion with your clinician.  You can encourage them to contact me if they have any questions.

But.. Mindful❋Emotion is NOT psychotherapy.

Taking the course does not mean that I can diagnose or treat any psychological problem you might have.  I will encourage you to seek help if I have the sense that it might be necessary.  You will need to sign a liability waiver before you start the course indicating that you understand this.

I’ve tried mindfulness practices before and they don’t work for me.  Should I take the course?

You should absolutely consider taking the course.  Please check out the video in “When Your Mind Wanders During Meditation” which is designed especially for people who have had problems with mindfulness practice in the past.

I’m new to mindfulness practice. Won’t I feel far behind everyone else? Should I take the course?

If you have little or no experience with mindfulness practice and meditation, no problem.  We’ll actually be starting at the very beginning.

I’ve been meditating for a long time.  Will I learn anything new here?

If you’re an experienced meditator, you know that every time you practice you will learn something valuable.  In addition, you will learn to use your ability to focus on the present moment to process your experiences of emotions in real time.
